The opposite of naming a star after your significant other officially exists. The Hemsley Conservation Centre in southeast London is allowing people to name a cockroach after their ex for Valentines Day this year.
They are doing this to raise money for future Zoo projects.
Here is how it will work.
People who go to the Zoo will be able to see the cockroaches names displayed right next to the cockroach exhibit. Each ex will be assigned to a unique cockroach. The cost to participate in this is $2.
In addition to giving an ex recognition at the zoo, people who pay $2 for this will also receive an official certificate from the Hemsley Conservation Centre. The certificate says “I’ve named a cockroach at the Hemsley Conservation Centre in the not so loving memory of my worthless ex!”
The participants that live in or are visiting the London area, will also receive half-price admission to the zoo for participating in this promotion.
Here is a statement from the Hemsley Conservation Centre about this promotion posted on their Facebook page.
“Now, we know it’s a little over a month away, but we know you like to be organized! For those that don’t quite require revenge, there’s another way to make you feel better about getting back at your ex this Valentine’s Day. The HCC is offering the chance to name a cockroach in honor of your, or your friend’s worthless ex-“someone” on this special holiday of love. We are highlighting these creatures through our ‘name a cockroach programme’ (we think adopt is a little too strong, after all – you probably don’t want to adopt your ex) to raise money for our projects at the zoo.”
